As a Kindergarten teacher, I loved to teach about seasons, even though it wasn’t addressed in the curriculum every year.
Understanding the passage of time is such an abstract concept for young minds and breaking it down into bigger chunks helps them begin to understand.
Once they know there are four seasons in a year and begin to notice the patterns of the changing seasons, they slowly start to understand the passage of time in the world around them.
Plus there are so, so, SO many fun crafts and activities to do with the seasons.
So much so that I devote a week to each one. Today I’ll be starting you off with my free Spring Themed Preschool Lesson Plans!
As always you can find all of these pins on my Pinterest Preschool Science board. Be sure to follow me there so you can see all the ideas I’m pinning!
For the purposes of this post, I’ve linked all the pins specified in the lesson plans right here for you.
You can grab the first of posts in our Seasons unit here or by clicking on the image below.
Children’s Books about Spring
The books that are recommended in this lesson are some of my favorites! Lois Ehlert and Eric Carle are two of my favorite children’s authors so I love that we kick off the week with those classics!
Remember, if you can’t find these books at your local library you can buy them really cheap off of Amazon. Their prices for books new really aren’t bad, but you can’t beat their used prices!

Spring Activities for Preschoolers
This is a fun little experiment to use to discuss the April showers that happen in spring! This is a great sensory activity! You can do it with fake flowers too if you don’t have access to flowers outdoors.
I love this motor skills activity. We got a pair of kid tweezers off Amazon and it’s a great way to build hand/motor coordination! This sweet little experiment is so much fun! I’ve also used this as a life hack before when I needed specific colored flowers for a party and couldn’t find any. White carnations to the rescue! This is another fun little activity. Grass grows quickly and can be fun to play with. My girls have a cup of grass that they give “haircuts” to.
I’ve also linked some of the supplies for you here as well.
