When she was about 18 months my oldest developed an obsession with Sesame Street. She loved to “clap, clap” with Elmo and “stomp, stomp with Count. That summer we went on an amazing road trip (which I hope to share more about later) and one of our stops was Sesame Place in Langhourne, PA. It was amazing and we had the BEST time. She adored meeting all the characters and it was pretty much the best day ever. After that, It was easy to decide on the theme for her 2nd birthday.
Sesame Street of course!
Invitations
I used a picture from our trip and designed the invites in Photoshop. I did black out the address for privacy purposes. This invite was for our personal use, but I do design and sell other invitations in my Etsy store here, if you are interested.
Venue
We signed her up for a toddler gymnastics class at a local gym and she loved it. It only seemed fitting to have the party there. The kids got free range of the gym and use of the facilities. It was pretty affordable at $150 for up to 15 kids.
They set up an obstacle course for the littler guests. It was the perfect environment for lots of kiddos to run around and expend lots of energy. Some of the adults even joined in on the fun!
We got her leotard from a vendor on Etsy who can be found here. A sweet friend made the tutu with tulle and an elastic band.
Food
I had alot of fun with the food at this party. I designed some cute food tent cards that went right with the theme. Abby Caddaby’s Magic Wands were a big hit. These were just pretzel rods, dipped in white chocolate and covered in sprinkles.
Of course we also had to have cookies for Cookie Monster!
And goldfish for Elmo!
We had a cake and cupcakes special ordered from a local bakery. They did a fabulous job with the design! The cupcakes were super fun and consisted of Elmo, Oscar, Big Bird and Cookie Monster. They were a huge hit with the kids!
Just so it wasn’t all sugar, we had a fruit and veggie tray. The fruit tray consisted of strawberries, blackberries, oranges, fruit dip and chocolate chips. They were arranged to look like Elmo. The Oscar veggie tray was made out of brocolli, olives, veggie dip and carrots.
Here’s a picture of the whole spread. We threw in a platter of Chic-fil-a nuggets for some protein. I think we called them Big Bird Nuggets – which in hindsight was a little grotesque!
I got the cute tablecloth and plates, cups and napkins off of Amazon. I will link them at the bottom. We also found some Adam and Eve Juice boxes on Amazon with Sesame Street characters that turned out perfect!
Decorations
We didn’t have a ton of space to decorate so I tried to keep it pretty simple. We hung a banner I designed from the ceiling, as well as some cute Sesame Street paper lanterns and swirlies.
I scoped out local consignment sales and stores and was able to find most of the Sesame Street characters we didn’t have. I think I bought a couple on Ebay too. The majority of the decor revolved around them, pictures of our Sesame Place trip and Sesame Street books I’d picked up here and there.
My then teaching assistant was so sweet and made this sign for the front door using a flyer I’d made and was planning to throw up on the door. These were also pre-Silhouette days but I still love how it turned out!
I also created a birthday chalkboard for her. I love how I can document her growth in this cute keepsakes. I sell many other designs in my store also.

Favors
I found a bunch of sesame street coloring books at the Dollar Tree and it worked out perfectly! Guests got a coloring book and a little baggy filled with ubbles, Seasame Street character rings, crayons and goldfish from Elmo.
I designed the sign for the basket and tags myself. They were easy to staple onto little vellum treat bags.
At the end of the day, we took home one exhausted but happy two year old. She seemed to love everything about this day, and we were thrilled to make it happen for her!

Wow! These are amazing! My daughter (20 months) also loves Sesame Street (especially Elmo, who goes by ‘Mo around these parts) and she would adore this. What great ideas. I especially love the Elmo leotard and tutu. It looks like the party was a huge success! i will definitely be trying some of these out for her 2nd birthday.
