If you’ve have daughters, and haven’t been living under a rock, you’ve probably seen or heard about Matilda Jane Clothing before.

Most women go through phases when looking at Matilda Jane clothes.

The first stage is noticing it’s uniqueness, maybe even being a little bit smitten with the styles. You might find yourself thinking it’s kind of cute, but you’re not sure it’s for you. You also might go through a little sticker shock, when you see the prices aren’t quite on par with your Old Navy and Target style budget. I mean when you’re used to buying from less expensive brick and mortar stores, is Matilda Jane worth it?

Fair enough, I started there myself.

But inevitably, you’ll begin to notice how incredibly cute and unique it is, and the growing popularity in your area and your curiosity will be piqued.

The tipping point? Probably your first piece of Matilda Jane Clothing.

Because once you get these beauties in your hands, and see first hand how incredible these clothes truly are, chances are you’ll be hooked.

But just in case you’ve got your doubts, or haven’t yet borne witness to the cuteness firsthand, I’ve got a whole slew of other things to love about MJC. So if you aren’t obsessed yet, let me help lure you into the world of Matilda Jane by sharing all the reasons these darling clothes are worth every penny and then some.

I first discovered Matilda Jane about 6 years ago when my oldest was a little over 2. It didn’t take long for me to become obsessed.

This is the closet door in my youngest’s room where we hang our absolute favorite MJ pieces. The little wood thing there is supposed to hold jewelry and ironically says, “Precious Jewels.”

I’d be lying if I said that was all of our stash. I may be a bit of a MJ hoarder. First world problems, right?

Through the years, my friends have also discovered, and fallen in the love with the brand, and after spending quite some time with many of us purchasing from an out of state trunk keeper, I decided to take the plunge and become a Matilda Jane trunk keeper myself.

And I stinking LOVE it!

Getting these clothes in the mail each month feels like Christmas all over and over again!

Truth be told, I question my ability in any career related to sales. I’m certainly not your typical assertive, in your in-box type MLM-Mom. My sales philosophy is more an, “If you build it they might come.” So selling Matilda Jane will probably never make me rich, but it sure will make me happy!

There are a million reasons to love Matilda Jane, but I’ve narrowed my list down to my top ten. So if you’re not a convert yet, hang on. It won’t be long til your sweet princess(es) have their own closet full of sparkling jewels!

10 Reasons to love Matilda Jane Clothing

So in case you’re asking yourself, “Is Matilda Jane worth it?” here are 10 reasons it absolutely is!

1. Their designs are unique works of art.

MJ designs aren’t your typical Old Navy or Target finds. They are in fact ultra unique and fairly exclusive in that only limited quantities are sold at each release.

Matilda Jane designs are sweet and whimsical and embody the spirit of childhood. They use a extensive range of textures, patterns and color palettes to create unique pieces of clothing that are sure to garner tons of compliments.

My favorite thing about Matilda Jane?

When you or your child wears MJ, they are literally wearing a work of art. The designs on their fabrics are hand drawn by their amazing artists and combined with other textures and patterns to create a product that stands out above the rest in it’s uniqueness.

My girls are giddy when we get MJ mail. They ship in cute little bags that the girls have learned to easily identify. They know that all kind of spinny, twirly, cuteness awaits them inside.

2. The quality of the materials is top notch!

Admittedly my husband is not the biggest fan of my tendency to splurge on clothes for our girls. However, even he has acknowledged and cute they are AND has even commented on how well made they are.

Y’all….this is high praise from him. He may roll his eyes when he sees the charges on the bank statement, but he doesn’t complain much, because he knows I’m buying quality clothes that will last a long time.

MJ designers don’t try to save on cheap fabric. Their pieces hold up better than virtually any clothes in my girls closet. After washing (and hanging dry) our outfits still look new, and many still retain that 100% crisp, new feeling.

The colors don’t fade, and while some fabrics will show normal signs of wear, we have had dresses that passed through both my girls, and bought from other people that still look brand new. And if you know my girls you know this is saying a lot.

My girls are cute and girly as the day is long, but they do not play cute and girly. They love being outdoors, climbing trees, playing in the woods, or jumping in muddy puddles. My girls are NOT easy on clothes!

It’s not just the girls clothing though. Literally all of my favorite clothes are Matilda Jane. The fabrics are so soft, bright and colorful. The styles make me feel a little less boring housewife and more cool Mom. I literally get a confidence boost when I’m headed out the door wearing MJ!

3. Their pieces are designed to get years and years of wear!

Due partially to the fact that they are so well made, Matilda Jane clothes last forever.
But that’s not my favorite part…

Frequently, your kid can wear them practically for YEARS, making them more than practically priced in the long run.

This is my oldest. She’s wearing a size 4 dress as a tunic with size 8 shorties. This is her all time favorite piece, from an older collection designed by Joanna Gaines. Her sister can also wear it as a dress, when she can convince big sis to share.

I have to imagine my oldest will get another 1-2 years out of this little dress as a top. We bought this when she was four. By the time she is done with it, we’ll have gotten 4-5 years of wear out of it and her little sister will still be able to wear it for several years.

One top – probably at least 6 years of wear. I paid $44 for it new. So, over 6 years, this adorable dress that my daughter adores cost me less than $8 a year.

This style dress and their knot dresses are my favorite for wearing for long times. Both work as they grow with shorties, leggings or scrappies.

While not all of their pieces work like this, you are almost always able to get a good 2 years (4 if you’ve got 2 girls like me), out of them. When you apply that logic to it, you’re actually being FRUGAL buying Matilda Jane.

4. There are so many different ways to coordinate different pieces in every release!

As a girl Mom, this is everything.

I’m totally guilty of buying matching outfits for my girls and I do this with Matilda Jane sometimes as well. But…what I love about MJ, is that each release has coordinating designs and styles so I can buy one thing for big sis, and something different for little sister.

With each release, there are even coordinating women’s pieces. These are perfect for family photos!

How precious are these spring outfits? I love how beautifully they complimented one another. The color pallete on these is one of my all time favorites too.

Here’s another one of my favorite sister sets. These clothes are from a release many years ago and have gotten a lot of love. They are still one of my favorite outfits for both girls though!

There’s also been a lot of buzz over capsule wardrobes recently.

A capsule wardrobe, for those not familiar, is a small, but meticulously selected collection of timeless clothing, and pieces that can easily be paired interchangeably for lots of different looks.

So if you’re a minimalist, Matilda Jane is also a great way to create an adorable and timeless wardrobe for your kiddo. Even if you’re not a fan of patterns, and prefer solid colored pieces, MJ has options for you!

5. They are almost magically stain resistant.

My girls are just about as messy as they are cute. As adorable as they are, they are dirt MAGNETS.

It seems to run in the family because my youngest niece is just as bad.

We recently had a small family gathering outdoors after a few rainy days.  Before the end of the day, she was covered in mud.  My sister had JUST bought her the dress she was wearing and it looked like her $50 had just been thrown down the drain. he first time my oldest spilled.

Y’all… She did a spot treatment and then soaked it in Oxyclean and it came right out! It was amazed because just earlier that week my daughter had pulled the same stunt in a Cat and Jack legging and shirt set, and despite the same treatments, I couldn’t get the stains out.

I’m not sure exactly how MJ comes so much cleaner because science and all isn’t really my jam, but I’m willing to bet that it likely comes from their decision to invest in such quality materials.

6. The biggest reason Matilda Jane is worth it: the magic of the twirl.

One of Matilda Jane’s missions seems to be keeping the magic of childhood alive for little girls.
Their pieces are fun and whimsical, full of bright vibrant colors and intricate patterns, design exclusively by their artists. Due to the nature of girls, and their love of things swishy and spinny, dresses are often the highlight of each new release.

Almost all of the dresses have one thing in common. An incredible twirl factor!

When your girl tries on a sweet Matilda Jane dress for the first time, she’s almost guaranteed to instantly twirl. Something about the combination of colors, patterns, textures and fabrics, just gets girls spinning.

In our world, girls are forced to grow up too fast, and their childhood passes by in a flash. These clothes remind them (and us), that despite the outside pressures of the world, at their core, they are beautiful, innocent girls, full of dreams and giggles and lots of twirls.

Who couldn’t get behind that?

7. They retain good value for resale.

While, I think there’s a lot to be said for buying new, there are lots of demands for pre-loved Matilda Jane.

And here’s the thing, unlike other clothing brands where you’re lucky to get a few bucks through consignment, Matilda Jane items remain sought after so you’re able to recoup some of your costs!

Before signing up to be a trunk keeper I had recently sized my youngest up to a 4 from 2 (though we did hold on to a few 2s that still fit). I sold her MJ pieces on BST and Ebay and for a total of about 20 pieces of clothing, I got almost $400 back!

Given that many of these size 2 clothes had also gone through my oldest child, we more than got our money’s worth! It also makes me happy to know that these pieces will live in another child’s closet for them to twirl and feel pretty in.

8. They have the most fun and engaging marketing!

This brand and it’s trunk keepers know how to create a buzz around their products. New releases are dropped almost monthly. Thousands of women eagerly await release night and trunk keepers stay up late to secure all their customers pretties!

Prior to the release trunk keepers share little sneak peaks of what’s to come, host giveaways, and do live previews of the trunk the day before ordering opens.

Their marketing works so well that lately releases sell out the night they are open to purchase!

It’s sometimes a gamble as to whether or not you’ll score all the things your heart desires.

In recent times, Coronavirus has taken many of the things we look forward to and put them on pause. Matilda Jane release is one time of the month I know I can always look forward to with my girls!

9. They are a company who gives back.

Matilda Jane is more than cute clothes.  They are a company who believe in giving back.

In 2013, Matilda Jane founder Denise DeMarchis created the Mighty Acorn Foundation.

The Foundation is a non profit that connects children living in imaginable conditions in the slums of Kenya to kind hearted families across the world.  Through company donations, customer donations and sponsorships, children who otherwise would live in despair and poverty are given essentials including proper housing, food, clothes and education.

In addition to supporting the Mighty Acorn Foundation, Matilda Jane also created a program called Janes Give Back.  This program was created to support local community organizations.  To date Jane Gives Back has raised over $180,000 for over 850 different organizations!

I love knowing that my purchases are not only adding brightness to our lives, but also to others!

10. They were value diversity and acceptance.

In recent years companies like Target and Old Navy have been getting a lot of positive press over their choices to represent people of all colors, sizes and abilities in their marketing. Matilda Jane may not be the presses, but they also strive to represent people of all types in their promotional materials.

I was also impressed to learn as a trunk keeper, that part of our training process included an informative training session on diversity. It’s refreshing to see a company so invested in representing ALL the people of the world we live in!

A company that strives to bring twirls and love and acceptance to the world?  Who couldn’t get behind that?!
