Fun & Easy Christmas gift ideas for 2 year olds

My baby is 2 this year, so I’ve begun my search for the perfect Christmas gift ideas for her.

It is a lot harder for her than with my oldest.   We already have so much of the typical 2 year old stuff so this year, I’m having to look a little harder.

And my extra research is paying of for both of us!  As a result, I’ve created this pretty comprehensive list of Christmas gift ideas for 2 year olds.  Hopefully it will make both mine and your Christmas shopping much easier!

Dramatic Role Playing Toys

Two year olds are tiny bundles of curiosity and wonder.  Much of what they learn, they learn by mimicking the world around them.  That makes toys that encourage dramatic play the perfect gift for tiny tots!

One thing that’s for sure making an appearance under our Christmas tree is the broom and mop set.  My tiny terror loves to make messes, so I’m gonna to to teach her how to clean them up!

Toys for Climbing and Jumping

Toddlers are just beginning to learn the limits of their body.  Like most children, they enjoy running and jumping, but also climbing.  In our case, climbing everything she can find.

That’s why things like a slide or a trampoline make the perfect Christmas gifts for 2 year olds.  And lets face it, anything that makes them expend a little extra energy and sleep better at night, is a win for you!

Toys to ride

We actually bought the cozy coupe last Christmas, and I wish I’d saved it for this year.  It was a little big for her and hasn’t gotten much use (by her), until recently.

I’m considering the Rollar Coaster toy as her big gift this year.  There is one at my daughter’s gymnastics class and it is always a big hit with the little ones!

Toys that build

Another toddler past time is building things (mostly to have fun tearing them down).  These toys are perfect ways for them to learn to build and also fine tune those developing motor skills!

Side note – Magnatiles are so much fun for adults too!  I love playing with these with my kiddos!

Puzzles

This is when we really started getting into the Melissa and Doug puzzles for my oldest daughter.  I have a ton we bought for her that we will be re-using, but I do have my eye on the latches puzzle this year!   I saw it on the Black Friday deals for Amazon last year but wasn’t quite quick enough to grab it!

Toys that Create

I think we’ve already established that toddlers are messy.  I mean really, it should go without saying, right?  So…when I toss out the idea of crafts for your 2 year old, I won’t be offended if you shudder and think I’ve lost my mind.

But seriously y’all…There are a couple of toddler safe art mediums that are tried and true and worth it!  Less mess = more fun for everyone!  If you haven’t met Color Wonder products yet, you are welcome!!

Bath Toys

Whether your child loves bath time, or hates it, buying cool bath toys is a must!  If they don’t like bath time, the right bath toys can be all the difference.

And if they love it?  They’ll just love it that much more!   I think we will grab the tea time bath set for my 2 year old this year.   I also usually put bathtub crayons in my oldest’s stocking.  This year though, I think they will both enjoy them!

Pretend play and dress up

The awesome thing about being a kid is that dress up is cool all year long.  And if you want to go to the store in a princess dress and tiara, people just think it’s crazy cute!

That kind of stuff doesn’t fly as an adult, so encourage that creativity while it’s social acceptable.   Start by building your child’s dress up wardrobe.

Fun interactive toys

There are all sorts of fun, interactive toys for toddlers, but we’ve found in my house, some of the toys that have withstood the test of time are the favorites.

Mr. Potato Head and Little People are big in our house and are almost guaranteed to be a hit with your kiddo as well!

Books

Your 2 year old’s vocabulary is growing fast and the days of My First Words board books are behind you.

While I’d still recommend board books (for durability),  you can begin to explore board books with shorter stories.  Our favorite board book is The Hungry Caterpillar.  We also love the Sandra Boynton series and have many of those books.

There you have it folks!  I’ve included 40 suggestions, so hopefully you were able to find something you like!

Like these?  I’ve got tons more coming for you as I amp up my holiday gift guides  and consolidate them into a handy reference page! For now, check out my Christmas gift guide for 1 year olds.   I’m also pinning lots of great guides and Christmas ideas on Pinterest so be sure to follow me there!

This is very helpful. I have two beautiful nieces, four and two. My two-year-old niece would all the toys that build. 🙂
Thanks for putting this all together.
    Cheers,
