There are lots of awesome things about summer.  Long days, summer sun, nice cool pools, swarms of bugs & insects.

Kidding of course.  Bugs are my least favorite part of summer.

But the one good thing about summer and creepy crawlies is that it makes the perfect time to cover insects in your preschool curriculum.

So this week I’ve rounded up tons of cute ideas on Pinterest and compiled them for you in a simple, easy to follow lesson plan.  You’re Welcome (in my best Maui voice).  While these are compiled into one week’s lessons, you can easily spread them out as long as you like.  Be sure to follow me on Pinterest, where I’ve pinned all these great ideas and tons more.

Books

For this, I didn’t include alot of non-fiction books.  But ONLY because depending on the author – they can be hard to find.  Your library will have plenty of non-fiction books on insects.  Be sure to check them out and read them with your kiddo!

The books I included are popular books and should be available in your local library.  If not, I included some Amazon links below.  You can score books dirt cheap on Amazon by checking the used listings!

Crafts

There are so many cute crafts to go along wit this theme!  I had a hard time narrowing them down.  I think my favorite is the bug fingerprint jar though!   What a cute way to preserve their little fingerprints!

Activities

Make this week even more fun with this adorable activities!  Lots of great fine motor activities in here!

Worksheets

Please note currently, these worksheets have lots of great activities that promote a variety of skills including math & language arts.   There is not an abundance of preschool worksheets that center on science skills yet – possibly due to the idea that they may be a bit too technical for most children at this point.  I’d love to see them though if you find them so please share!
