Motivational Water Bottle Tutorial – Step by Step
I know I’m supposed to drink lots of water. I feel better when I do. But still I struggle getting the appropriate amount daily. I know I’m not the only one, and I was so excited when I saw super cute motivational water bottles pop up in my crafting groups.
I wasted no time in making one – and you know what? It actually helped! I’ve even started challenging myself to drink more! I’m feeling more energized and just all around better from doing it!

Step 1: Create (or import) your design
If you are not using my design you will need to create or import your own. For the purposes of this tutorial, I will assume you are using mine or one similar. You will need to either import the design into Silhouette Studio by either downloading it (if an SVG) or merging it from your library (if it is a Silhouette Store purchase) .
If you’re looking for my design, you can find it here. Click on the link, or the image below to download. Please keep in mind, this design is for personal use only. If you are interested in a commercial license please contact me. I do sell these in my Etsy store.
Step 2: Group by color
To make cutting and applying this easier, I recommend ungrouping the design first. You will then need to group the pieces by color you wish to cut them in as shown. For this bottle, I chose to use a light purple and dark teal (orginally – I ended up going back and changing it to mint green later). I grouped these colors together to save time when cutting. I also tried to keep them in the place in which they would be placed on the bottle. It does waste a little vinyl, but it will make your life so much easier!
Step 3: Cut & weed your design
Before cutting, be sure to weld your design so any script fonts cut in one piece. For this project you will want to use 651 vinyl. Arrange each color so it will fit on one sheet and cut the colors individually. Once both colors are cut carefully, weed them and then apply transfer tape. Be sure to run a scraping tool over it to make sure it is firmly stuck to the transfer tape.
Step 4: Apply your design on the bottle
Carefully apply each color on the appropriate side one at a time. Since the surface you are applying it to is curved, I recommend starting it in the middle and then smoothing it down from the inside out. This helps prevent bubbles. Once one color is adhered, do the next. When you are finished, be sure to let the completed project sit for 24-48 hours before use. Also remember these are handwash only!
And there you have it! Your very own super cute motivational water bottle. I hope it helps you meet your daily H2O requirements! I know it did me! I pop some ice cubes in and take mine everywhere!
