The letter o is one of my favorite letters to teach. Wanna know why?

Other than the letter l it is one of the first letters kids pick up on and, it’s super easy for them to write. Not to mention the sound is kind of fun to say.

We used to tell student that the /o/ sound was very similar to the sound you make before you sneeze. I had one kindergartener who confused that early on and made a fake sneeze every time he sounded out words with the letter o. It was pretty darn cute but I learned to stick with the flashcards and keep the cutesy stuff to a minimum, lest I confuse the kiddos.

But don’t worry. You’ll get your fill of cutesy stuff with this week’s crafts and activities!

One of the cutest kindergarteners I ever taught created his own cute trick for remembering the letter M. She always said, “Mmmmmmmm, M&Ms, my favorite!” He had the cutest little voice and dimples for days!

I’m of the age that I remember my teacher telling us to remember “Mmmmm, like Campbells soup.” I highly doubt today’s kids would know what that meant, some M & Ms is probably a safe bet.

However, they remember it, today I’m sharing with you a week of super cute letter M crafts and activities. And…letter M is the 13th letter! We are officially halfway through the alphabet which makes us halfway through the series!

I’ve always hated silent letters.

I mean try explaining to a 5-year-old why some letters are silent and some aren’t.  The English language has so many caveats and complexity and it can be difficult for children to understand.

So this week’s letter is not one of my favorite letters.  That sneaky silent K is one of the hardest to explain. I mean at least E can be a superhero and leap over other letters, or even  buddy up with a sidekick and make a letter say it’s name.  Like a BOSS!
